Artist Of The Month: The Bedroom Hour

You hear a lot of ravings about bands in the West. But lo, at the other side of the Atlantic, a storm of up-and-coming musicians--bands and solo artists alike--are also taking over the music scene with their guitars and song-writing prowess. The Bedroom Hour, our featured artist for the month of September, is a cloud of calm, soothing melodies amongst this squall.

The Bedroom Hour is an indie/alternative rock band from London. They are comprised of five chaps, Stu Drummond, Mark Dudley, Mattia Milan, Rob Payne and Ryan Pincott, all of whom share a vision in creating the same inspiring music. I've had a chance to exchange some messages with them, so I took the opportunity to ask them a few questions that I think will allow us to get to know them a bit better. Here's what they had to say:

When and how was the band formed? How did the five of you come together?

The band was formed from two bands that knew each other and regularly gigged together. A few members from each band decided we had a common interest and joined forces as our original bands were coming to a natural end.

What's the story behind your band name?

The name came from a solo project our guitarist, Rob, was working on. He was writing an EP in his bedroom and decided to call it "the bedroom hour", an hour of songs written in his bedroom. When we formed the band, we decided that was a great yet mysterious band name!

Can you tell us what the band is currently working on? Any new music we should watch out for? Shows?

The band is working on new songs. We have gigs all over the UK and getting lots of radio play. We have had some interest from record labels and hope to take this further with a possible single release next year!

Competition has always been pretty tight in this type of industry. There are a lot of talented musicians out there, such as yourselves, who also want to be recognized. How do you want to be remembered?

We are not in it for the fame and glory although that's always nice. First and foremost, we wanna be remembered for writing credible music. We think we have a unique style, and [we] work hard on our melodies, lyrics and dynamics.

Here's an original song by the band, Heart Will Haunt, which, according to The Bedroom Hour, is one of their best tracks. They've got some lovely songs, but I'd have to agree; Heart Will Haunt is one of, if not the best track this band has up their humble sleeves. The way the song progresses is captivating--starting with the exchange of drum and tambourine beats, filling it in with Stu's amazing vocals and finally ending with an explosion of melodies. "It's got a lovely, slow build-up and the surprise is tucked away in the middle, so you will have to listen to it as we won't be able to give it justice in words", the band proudly shares.

Wake me up when September ends, Green Day's song goes. But not just yet, folks. Not just yet. You might want to stick around and stay awake for this one.
