The Drums |
Down By The Water is probably one of the best reasons why I love this band so much. This song reminds me of a romantic, slow-dance scene from an old movie. I cannot even begin to express how crazy I am for this song, and their music, in general. Well, that, plus the awkward boy acts and the weird dance moves. Exhibit A: yes, Johnny (photo above)? Speaking of weird dance moves, wait till you've seen the music video for Down By The Water. It is precious. These boys are really something. I love them to pieces.
I was originally going to save The Drums for later being that they're one of my most favorites, but today, I learned sad news that just couldn't delay them going into this blog. Connor Hanwick, who's guitarist for the I band, and before that, drummer, has apparently (confirming my emphasis on the word) left the band. They says he's cut ties with Jonny Pierce, their lead vocal. Not all that surprising, really--word has been going around for quite a while-- because he's been playing with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart for their 2012 tour. This wasn't a big deal at first because his girlfriend, Peggy (cute, adorable Peggy), is the keyboardist/vocalist for The Pains. Connor played with The Pains during the Laneway Festival in Singapore last February where his band, The Drums, also played. At that time, it was just sweet, but sweet later turned into questionable as Connor continued to play with The Pains for their Asian leg tour while The Drums was on their UK tour. During The Pains of Being Pure at Heart concert here in Manila (where I was present and was all giddy), people from the other side of the Pacific were looking for Connor via Twitter. Unfortunately for them, he was at my side of the stage that very moment. And here I was praying that soon I'd be able to see Johnny and Connor on stage together while I dance to Money. What a distant dream, it is now.
Their latest album, Portamento, has got the scariest album cover I've ever seen. I'm not going to display that here, so Google away, if you want. Make sure you view it in full screen to see better. That was exactly what I did, and as my friend says in her blog, I was badly portamentoed.
I still cannot imagine The Drums without Connor. There is still no confirmation to all these rumors, so let us all pray that whatever's obviously going on in the band be resolved soon!
