Boats and Birds by Gregory and the Hawk

photo from Fat Cat Records

If you be my star
I'll be your sky
You can hide underneath me & come out at night
When I turn jet black and you show off your light
I live to let you shine
I live to let you shine

But you can skyrocket away from me
& never come back if you find another galaxy
Far from here with more room to fly
Just leave me your stardust to remember you by

I'm back! I realized I've already broken my supposed weekly trend for this blog, but now that I am past the busy phase in work and in personal life, I'm ready to set this blog back on track. For this entry, we have music from Gregory and the Hawk. All I can really say is, she's one of my absolute favorites. And this song is just so, so beautiful. Gregory and the Hawk is actually Meredith Godreau, a singer-songwriter from New York. Boats and Birds EP is her self-produced album released in 2006. In 2008, Fat Cat Records discovered her when she played for a local music bar in Brooklyn where they claimed she "stunned everyone in the room." That was the beginning of her career. She was signed by Fat Cat Records after that encounter, and was in the studios working on her first album just a month later. Even before that though, Meredith was already making a name for herself. She has already sold thousands of copies of her self-produced songs and albums, all made easy by the internet. Yes, it all started with a couple of instruments, a passion, and a Myspace account. Even I, happened to discover her only through the world wide web. It's one of the things I love most about this sometimes-vicious thing--discovering good music. Her fourth album, Come, Now, will be released June this year. Enjoy (I know you will)!
