Ben Gibbard Soon to Release First Solo Album

After several albums (and we do mean a lot) from Death Cab for Cutie, Ben Gibbard, the band's front man, will release his first-ever solo album on October 16th. Gibbard will also be going on a solo tour in North America on the same month in line with the new album. Will his music sound more like Death Cab for Cutie or The Postal Service, Gibbard's chiptune/electropop band? Well, he released this new single just two days ago via his Soundcloud, so I daresay you judge for yourself.

Gibbard tweeted that the song is his tribute to the Smith Tower in Seattle, the once-tallest skyscraper in the West Coast from its completion in 1914 until the Space Needle took the title in 1962. Listen closely to the lyrics. It is quite a feat. Here is Teardrop Windows, the first single off Ben Gibbard's first solo album, Former Lives. And, it's also free for download!

Former Lives. Do you think this album title has any reference to Gibbard's "former life" with estranged wife Zooey Deschanel?
