The sun was glaring from high up in the sky, the waves were crashing, and I was just sitting there, beer in hand, taking it all in. It’s funny because in the summer there’s always a certain euphoria that can only present itself in this season, and yet, soaking in all this, everything feels so still. Or at least you hope it was—just so you can keep it longer. But the day is young, and so are you, and in this season when everything’s in full bloom, it feels as if anything can happen. As Fitzgerald said in The Great Gatsby, there is a familiar conviction that life was beginning all over again with the summer.
From where I’m from, summer has just wrapped up, but in some other parts of the world, the heat is just beginning to peak. And whether you plan on spending your days by the beach, or by going on a cross-country road trip with your best buddies, make the trip even better with some good music to boot.
Turn the music up and let great bands like Seapony, The Drums, Carousel and Empire of the Sun—to name a few—take you away into the summer you so deserve. Who doesn’t love good music on a good summer day, anyway? I know I do. And if you do too, well, then this mix here is for you.
